Thanks to programs like Learn to Earn (LTE), HCZ is creating not only lifelong learners, but also lifelong earners.
LTE offers year-round programming after school and during the summer to 200 public high-school students. Like all of our youth development programs, LTE provides extensive academic support and college preparatory programming, including one-on-one tutoring and college visits. Yet LTE is unique among our high-school programs in primarily recruiting 11th and 12th graders who have not previously participated in HCZ programming and are in need of more intensive services.
To this end, LTE offers a wide variety of services not only to help students address the various challenges they face in and outside of school, but also to help them prepare for today’s highly competitive job market. LTE’s comprehensive work readiness curriculum enables students to explore potential career paths and learn critical academic and professional skills, such as organization and time management. They also have the opportunity to learn financial literacy through partnerships with a number of local banks, and gain valuable work experience through LTE’s summer employment program, which matches students with opportunities based on their interests. Meanwhile, entrepreneurship and enrichment activities help students develop strong business savvy, important leadership and life skills, and a deep appreciation of the foresight, commitment, and determination required to see projects through to completion—a trait that will serve them well when they get to college and throughout their lives.
