About The Armory

The Armory is a multi-purpose, community wellness center. The Armory offers high-quality fitness programming to the students, families, and staff of the Harlem Children’s Zone. In addition, the Armory offers an array of free or low-cost community fitness programming.

Armory Services

  • Daily Youth Program: Offers daily fitness and sports activities with a focus on character development
  • Intramural Sports: Runs weekly intramural sports leagues for HCZ students
  • Athletic Development: Connects HCZ students to their athletic passion with an opportunity for advancement and college scholarship

HCZ Armory Team Sports

Children can join one of our formal team sports: track and field, tennis, gymnastics, and flag rugby.

Expert Instruction

We work with athletic program partners to offer expert instruction for tennis, gymnastics, basketball, flag rugby, lacrosse, dance, swimming, golf, and soccer.

  • Sports Advocacy: Provides support to all HCZ Scholar Athletes on how best to manage both academic and athletic requirements. We also offer guidance to athletes and families through the process of becoming a college athlete.
  • Community Programming: Offers free community fitness classes, gym access, and low-cost tennis court rentals on a daily basis.
  • Staff and Student Training: Provides a variety of training opportunities for HCZ staff, students, and families. These include CPR, First Aid, RTE, HCZ Team Sport Training, Team Building, and High Ropes/Adventure Based Learning.
  • Event Center: Serves as an event space and event support for large and small-scale HCZ and community events.

  • Fitness Class Schedules: Free classes open to all community members and HCZ families.
  • Community Tennis: Tennis courts are available to rent hourly for a low cost to all community members, HCZ families, and staff.
  • Partner Program Info: Tennis and gymnastic programs offer free classes to all HCZ students.
  • Events: Occasionally, we host community events or free fitness classes open to all community members.
  • Online Fitness Resource and Activity Catalog: Free online catalog with fitness resources, workout plans, video fitness demos, and more to promote health at home.
