Well+Woke 2022 is a celebration of physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness for Harlem Children’s Zone staff. Join us May 16-20 for live and virtual events, including 3 X 3 Basketball, 2-Mile Running Clinic, Spin classes, food trucks, Cooking Throwdown, and more.

Well+Woke 2022 Registration

Registration is required for virtual events on May 16 and 18, and for select in-person events on May 16 and 17 (staff are welcome to just show up for all other virtual and in-person events). 10:00 AM-4:00 PM – Midday Mani @ HCZ Armory, 40W. 143rd St. (on-site registration)

Stop by for your 25-minute express manicure at Harlem’s Mobile Nail Shuttle.

11:00 AM-3:00 PM – Food Trucks

  • HCZ Armory, 40 W. 143rd St. – Baonanas (banana pudding) and Terry and Yaki (halal Asian food cart)
  • Geoffrey Canada Community Center, 35 E. 125th St. – King Souvlaki (authentic Greek street food)
  • Westside Community Center, 245 West 129th St. – Souvlaki GR (Greek) and Exotic Bowls (Brazilian fruit bowls, smoothies, and bubble teas)

11:00 AM-3:00 PM – Staff Market @ HCZ Armory, 40 W. 143rd St. (no registration required – just show up)

Come out and collect your free box of fresh produce. This box contains a 14-pound assortment of organic fruits and vegetables sourced from small artisanal farm in the Lancaster, Pa. region.

11:00 AM-4:00 PM – Movement Therapy @ HCZ Armory, 40 W. 143rd St. (on-site registration)

Join our 20-minute guided Movement Therapy, a technique that improves mobility, flexibility, and breathing to attain calmness and physical poses in the body.

11:00 AM-4:00 PM – DIY: Scrubs and Soaps/DIY: Butters and Balms HCZ Armory, 40 W. 143rd St. (no registration required – just show up)

Make your own scrubs, soaps, butters, and balms.

11:00 AM-12:30 PM – Zipline @ HCZ Armory, 40 W. 143rd St. (no registration required – just show up)

Thrill seekers wanted! Join our certified instructor for ziplining. No prior experience required.

11:30 AM-12:00 PM & 12:30-1:00 PM – The Yoga Kickback @ HCZ Armory, 40 W. 143rd St. (no registration required – just show up)

This movement and breath session connects the breath and body with movements that will make you feel both comfortable and challenged. All levels welcome.

1:00-2:00 PM – Cooking Throwdown @ HCZ Armory, 40 W. 143rd St. (no registration required – just show up)

A competitive cooking event featuring the best chefs at HCZ.

4:30 PM – 2-mile Running Clinic @ Central Park led by Rowland Boateng | Bus Pick-Ups from Geoffrey Canada Community Center, 35 E. 125th St. and Westside Community Center, 245 W. 129th St. (To register, email Rowland Boateng at rboateng@hcz.org)

Join our very own marathon veterans Rowland Boateng, Director of Social Services, and Greg Forbes, Managing Director for Economic Mobility, for a pre-run stretch, inspirational messages, and a group run in Central Park. Walkers also welcome. Appropriate sneakers and running attire is a must.

4:30-5:30 PM – Spin Class @ Harlem Cycle, 2350 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd. (click here to register)

A heart-pumping, rhythm-based spin class with a little bit of something for everyone. Intervals, rolling hills, sprints, climbs, runs, surges, and jumps all to music hand-picked to motivate and inspire.

11:00-11: 50 PM – Benefits workshop with Alerus and the HCZ Human Resources team (on Zoom – click here to register)

Take charge of your financial well-being. The workshop will offer tips on improving your long-term financial future and how to enroll in financial benefits.

12:00-1:00 PM – Creative Art Therapy with the HCZ Emotional Wellness Team (on Zoom – click here to register)

5:15-6:15 PM – Cardio Strength @ Harlem Cycle, 2350 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd. (click here to register)

This interval-based class combines full-body strength training with high-intensity cardio bursts designed to tone your body, improve your endurance, and clear your mind.
