A study of HCZ’s Promise Academy® Charter School by Harvard economist Roland Fryer was given a thumbs up by the “famously tough reviewers” at the U.S. Department of Education’s What Works Clearinghouse, as reported by Education Week. Comparing students who won the school’s admission lottery with those who did not win, Dr. Fryer found that the Promise Academy® middle school students had closed the black-white achievement gap in math and significantly narrowed it in English.
