Working with 13,000 children a year, we have a lot of activities happening every day after school: academic help, arts, technology, fashion, and, of course, sports. While all students get one hour of physical exercise a day as part of our Healthy Harlem initiative, some of our students choose to focus more directly on sports and a few of them found success outside of the Zone recently.
Our girls track and field team, made up of students from multiple after-school programs, competed in the Colgate Women’s Games earlier this month and finished with so much to be proud of. We had twelve young women make it to the semifinals, six make it to the finals, and four go on to win 1st place in their division! In addition to the challenge of competing in a major amateur track series against girls from all over the region, the top scorers were awarded college scholarship money. I couldn’t be prouder of our scholar athletes and the great perseverance and fortitude they showed throughout the multi-week competition.
Thank you for supporting our students through all their challenges and successes as they pursue their passions and find their place in the world.
