As of December, the roughly 600 students in one of our elementary schools alone have read over 26,317 books — that’s an average of 43 books per child in less than four months! They are well on their way to reaching the ambitious goal of reading 50,000 books this year with the help of their teachers, encouragement from our high school book club, the generosity of donors who provided books and their new student-run lending library. As you can see in the photos, they’re certainly enjoying themselves.
While students are discovering the world and letting their imagination run wild through books, they’re also building strong literacy skills that will continue to benefit them on their journey to and through college. I’m so proud of our students and I hope you are too, as your support makes this all possible.
Thank you for opening our students’ eyes to the magic of a good book. I can’t wait to see what these bright young scholars go on to do in the months and years ahead.
