Excitement is everywhere here at Harlem Children’s Zone as hundreds of our graduating seniors have been accepted to college and committed to their top school. Today, I want to tell you about three of our scholars who are all headed to Cornell University this fall: Bintou, Aicha, and Rokiatou.
- Bintou began her journey with HCZ as an infant in Baby College and now, nearly 18 years later, Bintou is exceling in school and thrilled to be heading to college to study molecular biology with the goal of advancing cancer treatment.
- Aicha has been an HCZ scholar for nearly a decade, joining our Promise Academy school in second grade. She plans to use her full scholarship to study pre-med with the goal of becoming a pediatrician with her own clinic to serve children who don’t have access to quality care.
- Rokiatou joined HCZ as a sophomore in high school through one of our after-school programs. Through that program she was introduced to Cornell when she spent two weeks on campus at a pre-college summer exposure program. When she returns in the fall, she’s interested in studying computer science with the goal of becoming a software engineer and using her talents to improve information technology in schools.
While these three young women joined HCZ at different times and in different ways, each is headed to college and with bright futures ahead of them. We’re so proud of their success and will continue on this journey with them to Cornell, through college graduation, and beyond.
Thank you for supporting our scholars as we walk hand in hand with them from cradle to college to career. Together, we can ensure today’s newborns in Baby College become tomorrow’s college graduates.
